American Rescue Workers (ARW) is proud to celebrate its 90th anniversary this year, celebrating 90 years of unwavering commitment to preventing hunger and homelessness in Lycoming County. Since its founding in 1934, ARW has been a cornerstone of community support by providing vital services to those in need.

Providing Shelter and Food

The impact of American Rescuers in Lycoming County is tremendous. In 2023, they provided 25,185 overnight stays, ensuring individuals, families and veterans in crisis have a safe place to sleep. Last year, ARW served more than 96,000 meals, including 66,795 shelter meals, ensuring no one in our community goes hungry. In addition to shelter meals, food pantries, holiday meal distributions (Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas) and drive-thru meals fed a total of 29,400 people last year, highlighting their critical role in combating food insecurity.

Holistic Prevention: Social Service Center

The American Rescue Workers’ Social Services Center takes a holistic approach to preventing homelessness through a multitude of services. Beyond financial assistance, the Social Services Center provides case management to address underlying issues by providing sustainable solutions. Thousands of people benefit from these services each year. The Social Services Center Food Pantry distributed 522,747 pounds of food in 2023, which is 435,623 meals to more than 25,000 people. On average, the ARW Food Pantry serves 1,000 families per month, a 66% increase from 2022. Additionally, the ARW Social Services Center has provided over $200,000 in community service assistance, preventing individual homelessness crises one person at a time, significantly reducing the number of homeless people in the community.

To celebrate their extraordinary journey, ARW invites the community to a big birthday celebration in September. Join us for a festive event filled with community spirit and heartfelt gratitude as we honor our past and look forward to a bright future together.
