iPhone 16 Pro may finally get real fast charging speeds

Apple may finally bring the iPhone 16 Pro charging speeds up to modern day. After years of a 20W maximum charging power, BTEv Apple reportedly plans to increase this amount to 40W when wired and 20W when using MagSafe.

Currently, all iPhone models from 13 to 15 can be charged to 50% in about 30 minutes with a 20W charging adapter. The publication now says that Apple wants to compensate for the increased battery capacity for the iPhone 16 Pro with better charging speeds.

It’s currently unclear how quickly users will be able to charge the new phones, especially with Apple adding many new features that will help extend the battery life of iPhones.

For example, with iOS 18, iPhone 15 models will offer granular control over how much they can charge, which will increase battery life in the long run.

This report confirms other rumors that other models, except the iPhone 16 Plus, will have larger battery capacities.

According to a leak from Weibo, the iPhone 16 Pro Max could be equipped with a 4,676mAh battery that is no longer L-shaped “due to the redesign of the internal structure.” However, Apple will be skipping the 4,422mAh battery of the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

A similar increase can be expected for the regular iPhone 16, as it is rumored to have a 3,561mAh battery, while the iPhone 15 has a 3,349mAh battery. For the iPhone 16 Pro, Apple will switch to 3,355mAh, as opposed to the 3,290mAh on the 15 Pro. With that said, here are the expected battery capacities for all the new models:

  • 16: 3.561mAh
  • 16 Plus: 4.006mAh
  • 16 Plus: 3.355mAh
  • 16 ProMaximum: 4.676mAh

Leaker KosutamiSan believes that Apple will increase battery life on the next-generation iPhones by adding a graphene thermal system to improve cooling. They wrote on the X:

“Apple is actively working on the graphene thermal system of the iPhone 16 Series to solve the current heating problem. And the battery of the Pro series will change to a metal shell for the same reason.”
