What is Happy Campers?

“In a beachside campground on the Virginia coast, residents spend their summers living far apart in rusty RVs. They laugh at the modest rent they pay for a million-dollar place, but it’s not just the gorgeous sunsets that make them the luckiest people in the world, it’s the community they create,” the synopsis reads.

“Beneath the clichéd trailer park clichés lies an unlikely utopia where everyone is welcome. Neighbors help each other out and share everything from electrical appliances to simple pleasures. Loneliness and isolation are unthinkable. When their affordable haven is sold to developers, residents prepare for eviction and the loss of generations of friendships. They cling to their last days in the sun. The wealthy crowd that takes their place will never be so rich.”

Amy Nicholson is a filmmaker who has produced and directed several feature films, including Zipper: Coney Island’s Last Wild Ride, Pickle, Muskrat Lovely, Independent Lens, and more.
