Community unites for a cleaner city thanks to Pick It Up, Portland! 2024 – Oregon is here

The spirit of community and conservation shone brightly this past weekend as hundreds of Portland residents participated. SOLVE’s 8th annual Pick It Up, Portland! Series of events presented by Pacific Power. Over the course of two days, 400 volunteers cleared nearly 3,000 pounds of trash from Portland’s streets, making a tangible impact on the city’s cleanliness and beauty.

Event Summary:

We’re kicking off summer in the Rose City with Pick It Up, Portland! mobilized the community for a major cleanup mission. Cleanups at four key locations on Friday, June 21—Eastbank Esplanade, Downtown Portland, Sellwood Riverfront Park and Holladay Park—set the stage for a citywide cleanup on Saturday, June 22.

“We are incredibly grateful to all of the volunteers who came out to Pick It Up, Portland! Their dedication and hard work have made a significant difference in the appearance and health of our city. Events like this highlight the power of community action and the positive impact we can achieve when we come together for a common cause. Thank you to everyone who attended and supported this event,” said SOLVE CEO Kris Carico.

Highlights of the Event and the Impact of Volunteers:

Total Impact: This year, 400 volunteers collected 2,870 pounds of trash. This collective effort significantly improved the cleanliness and attractiveness of Portland’s neighborhoods and highlighted the community’s commitment to maintaining a healthy and welcoming city.

Friday, June 21: Cleanup efforts are underway in key locations including Eastbank Esplanade, Downtown Portland, Sellwood Riverfront Park and Holladay Park.

Saturday, June 22:As part of the community-focused effort, volunteers worked to beautify and combat litter in neighborhoods across the city, from Northwest Portland to Southeast Foster, from Northeast Marx Drive and 82nd Street to West Linn and the Springwater Corridor.

Litter poses a significant threat to the well-being of our streets, neighborhoods, and waterways. Through Pick It Up, Portland!, SOLVE aims to reduce these impacts by creating opportunities for residents, businesses, and volunteers to actively contribute to the well-being of their communities.
