AMD Zen 5 Ryzen 9 9950X Benchmark Leak Reveals Stunning Performance

AMD is expected to launch its Ryzen 9000 desktop processors using its new Zen 5 architecture in late July, and thanks to recent leaks we’re getting our first look at the performance of the flagship Ryzen 9 9950X in particular.

The benchmark numbers were found on Geekbench (via Videokartz) and have single- and multi-core scores that are easily comparable to both previous-gen Ryzen 7000 models and Intel’s 14th-gen CPUs like the Core i5-14600K and Core i5-14900K. It’s worth noting that the specs of the test systems used will likely be different, and so won’t be directly comparable when compared to actual launch reviews; we’d expect the same system to be used to test both the Ryzen 7000 and Ryzen 9000 CPUs here, but it should give you an idea of ​​the performance we can expect.

Below we can see the latest single-core results for the new Ryzen 9000 models, and they’re particularly impressive. The Ryzen 9 9950X was almost 500 points, or 15 percent, faster than Intel’s Core i9-14900K CPU, and there was an even bigger gap between it and the Ryzen 9 7950X.

In fact, even the Ryzen 5 9600X was significantly faster than any older CPU from Intel or AMD, and here it was 11% faster than the Ryzen 9 7600X. However, there are some question marks over the use of AMD’s Precision Boost Overdrive, which increases frequencies, and whether or not it’s enabled, especially since the results shown below for the Ryzen 9000 CPUs, with the exception of the Ryzen 9 9950X, are a bit slower than others we’ve seen so far.

However, since the Ryzen 9 9950X scores are the first we’ve seen, we don’t yet know if this counts towards stock speeds or PBO results. Still, the Ryzen 9000 appears to have a significant performance boost in lightly threaded workloads over current models from both AMD and Intel, which is exciting.

Below we can see the multi-core score, which is less impressive at the moment as the Core i9-14900K still manages to beat the Ryzen 9 9950X’s score, with the latter not far ahead of the Ryzen 9 7950X. Again, we should take these results with a pinch of salt, but so far they suggest the Ryzen 9000 delivers more of a boost in single and lightly threaded performance rather than multi-threaded performance.

Meanwhile, Intel isn’t expected to release its next-generation Arrow Lake-S desktop CPUs until much later this year, perhaps even coinciding with AMD’s Ryzen 9000 3D V-Cache models. AMD is likely to have the fastest processors on the market with its Zen 5 Ryzen 9000 CPUs for at least the next few months.
