Twitch streamer defeats Elden Ring expansion Shadow of the Erdtree with dance mat

Nightmare difficulty level: Elden Ring fans have already begun to “get better” with the new weapons and gameplay mechanics introduced in the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, but a highly skilled (and highly patient) group of players are taking FromSoftware’s challenge to the next level.

Shadow of the Erdtree is the first expansion for Elden Ring created by Japanese studio FromSoftware. Combining the “Soulsborne” formula with a new open-world design, the game features some challenging boss fights, including the infamous demigod Malenia. SotE has already been purchased by five million players, but FromSoftware was forced to slightly lower the extreme difficulty level just a few days after the DLC’s release.

“Traditional” players may find Elden Ring and SotE very difficult or even impossible to complete, but the publishers and FromSoftware’s most devoted fans have turned the ER expansion into a new challenge. Souls players don’t just complete SotE by killing big bosses and the true god waiting for them at the end of the map; they do it using the most uncomfortable controllers and controller-like devices they can find.

Twitch streamer MissMikkaa has managed to defeat all of the SotE bosses using her customized dance mat as a controller. Mikkaa says the final boss took 52 tries and seven hours of “dance pads,” while the entire DLC took a week to complete after 325 deaths. “Gravity” apparently gave her the most kills (69 times). “I hope Miyazaki is proud of me,” the streamer said after completing the ER tour de force, which hurt her feet.

Mikkaa’s bio on X states that he “plays a lot of Elden Ring.” He has previously completed the base game with a dance mat, and has played two different instances of ER simultaneously using the aforementioned dance mat and a more traditional controller (killing Malenia in both).

Despite its difficulty and carefully designed bosses, Elden Ring has attracted some pretty skilled players, who have completed the game with a variety of extreme challenges and some of the most ridiculous setups imaginable. Dance mats are just the tip of the ER iceberg, even if one beat One of the hardest bosses in SotE, Messmer the Impaler, who has “mind control and zero hands”.

Klein Tsuboi, the player known as “Let me solo her” after becoming a special Malenia killer for other players in need of help, has also returned to the fray after the SotE release. Now known as “Let me solo her”, he helps ER players fight the bosses in the DLC, wearing a torn coat and with a pot on his head.
