What happened to Nelly Korda? LPGA Tour star returns from dog bite injury at Evian Championship

Nelly Korda was unable to play in the LET Aramco Team Series tournament held in late June due to an unexpected and unfortunate injury.

But that won’t keep her out of the fourth major on the LPGA Tour calendar, as she’ll be competing in the Evian Championship starting on Thursday.

Korda is looking for her second major of the season. She triumphed at the Chevron Championship, the first major on the calendar, but missed the cut in the last two – the US Women’s Open and the Women’s PGA Championship.

The 25-year-old has finished in the top 10 at the Evian Championships in consecutive years but has never won the event. He has a chance to write an impressive comeback story in France if he can win his seventh tournament of the year after missing three consecutive cuts and being bitten by a dog.

What happened to Nelly Korda?

Korda suffered a dog bite injury in late June that forced him to withdraw from the LET Aramco Team Series tournament.

“I am sad to announce that I have to withdraw from the Ladies European Tour tournament in London next week,” Korda said in a statement shared on her Instagram story. “I was bitten by a dog in Seattle on Saturday and will need time to receive treatment and fully recover.”

He apologised to fans, tournament organisers and sponsors for missing the tournament, which was held at the Centurion Club in Hemel Hempstead, England, from 28–30 June.

“Thank you for your understanding and I look forward to returning to the course as soon as possible,” he added.

Korda didn’t initially provide many details about how the injury occurred, but she did discuss the issue with LPGA Tour golfer and dog bite survivor Alison Lee.

Lee later provided more information about the circumstances surrounding Korda’s bite.

“This is an unfortunate situation and absolutely frightening.” Lee told Golf Monthly: About Korda’s injury. “He was bitten by a dog that he didn’t know, he was just in a random coffee shop.”

It’s still unclear exactly where Korda was bitten and how it could impact his play, but the fact that he was able to return for the Evian Championship is a good sign that his injury isn’t too serious.

After struggling in the last few tournaments, he is now hoping to return to his early season form.

Nelly Korda results 2024

Korda has started the 2024 LPGA Tour season on a hot streak, winning six of her first eight events, including five in a row. She has finished no worse than T-16 in any of the eight events and looks to be the clear best golfer on tour.

But Korda has missed the cut in three consecutive events since his win at the Mizuho Americas Open, including a combined 15 over-par in those six rounds, so he needs to perform much better to be successful at the Evian Championship.

Below are Korda’s tournament-by-tournament results and points since the start of the 2024 season.
