Riverhead community opposes proposed adaptive playground

A new adaptive playground could be built in downtown Riverhead, but some in the area oppose the proposal.

Last week, the president of the Riverhead Chamber of Commerce brought the issue to the town council and wrote a letter expressing opposition to the plan.

At the meeting held Wednesday evening, neighborhood residents also said they did not want the playground.

The playground is part of a project to create a town square, and the goal is to connect Main Street to the Peconic River. However, chamber and community members say putting a playground in the middle would block the view.
