SVCC Community Training offers Class B CDL course – Shaw Local

DIXON – Sauk Valley Community College Community Education has added Class B commercial driver’s license classes to its lineup of community courses.

Classes will be held on the SVCC campus and will prepare students for the Class B exam administered by the State Department. Class B CDL training is widely viewed as an entry point and helps potential drivers enter the trucking industry.

Vehicles that can be driven with a Class B license include dump trucks, garbage trucks, and snowplows. After successful completion of 160 hours of instruction (40 classroom hours and 120 driving hours), students will be scheduled to take the Class B exam administered by the State Department.

Class B commercial license permit class hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Commercial license operating hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM. Two class options are available: August 26 – September 20 or October 21 – November 15.

Class is in SVCC Room 3K04. $2,775, including Department of Transportation physical and drug screening. $2,000 in grant funds available to assist with tuition. Students will pay out-of-pocket costs for permit/license ($50) and motor vehicle registration ($20).
