Andy James Releases Jazz Interpretation of “New York State of Mind”

Las Vegas, NV-based jazz vocalist Andy James has released his own rendition of the Billy Joel classic “New York State of Mind.” The song, accompanied by a music video, is the latest single from his upcoming album. Let Me See Your Heart.

Andy James has been part of the entertainment industry for years. As an experienced dancer and passionate Jazz singer in Europe, his music reflects on his many experiences. He expresses personal messages in his originals and adds new perspectives to popular jazz songs.

Let Me See Your Heart James’ fifth album, to be released on August 9th via Le Coq Records, features contributions from a variety of renowned jazz musicians and frequent collaborators. The music features pianist Jon Cowherd, drummer Nate Smith, percussionist Alex Acuna and bassist John Patitucci. It also features Grammy-winning keyboardist John Beasley, saxophonist and bass clarinetist John Ellis, guitarist Chico Pinheiro and organist Ronnie Foster.

The new take on “New York State of Mind” is a blend of sounds that creates a refreshing alternative to the classic piano ballad. The new perspective provides an exciting, bigger and more dynamic combination of instruments and features a female vocalist. The song reflects James’ jazz beginnings, when he became comfortable recording songs that spoke to him. James made sure to give the song a fresh spin while maintaining its personal and relaxed value.

For me, the song that best sums up everything that’s great about this album might actually be ‘New York State of Mind’ – it sounds so new and different that it not only makes me feel like I’ve never heard the song before, but it also makes me look at the city itself with completely new eyes. For someone who’s lived in New York all her life, that really means something.
