Leaders and community come together about Raleigh state, Wake County and public schools

RALEIGH, North Carolina (WTVD) — An important meeting will be held today regarding the status of Raleigh, Wake County and the Wake County Public School System.

Organizers say elected officials, business leaders and community members will hear about our region’s past challenges and plans for the future.

Affordable housing will be discussed.

Last April, Wake County commissioners approved an $11 million affordable housing plan.

We are seeing Wake County’s population numbers continue to grow. The county says it is expanding by 51 people every day.

Raleigh Police Chief Estella Patterson said population growth is one of her biggest challenges.

Last week he said he wanted to improve response times and ensure there are enough police officers to tackle violent crime.

The talk will begin at noon at the Raleigh Convention Center.
