New England Aquarium releases 6 rehabilitated turtles back into ocean – Boston News, Weather, Sports

DENNIS, MASS. (WHDH) – Six sea turtles were released back into the ocean in West Dennis on Wednesday.

Citizens gathered to watch the special send-off of turtles who have been receiving treatment for months at the New England Aquarium due to hypothermia.

The group included a loggerhead sea turtle, a green sea turtle and a Kemp’s Ridley sea turtle.

“We are excited to release six more turtles back into their ocean homes. Knowing that each of these species is endangered, it is very rewarding to see our work directly contribute to conservation efforts that help ensure the survival of these populations,” Adam Kennedy, Director of Rescue and Rehabilitation at the aquarium, said in a statement. “Although their time at the Sea Turtle Hospital has come to an end, we are excited to continue to track their movements and learn from these animals.”

Many of the released turtles have been tagged so scientists and the public can track them. To track the turtles, visit: aquarium website.
