OnePlus Nord 4 to Get Six-Year Update

OnePlus Nord 4 to Get Six-Year Update

OnePlus Nord 4 Is An Upgrade In The Company’s Software Support Philosophy

Today, a few days before the OnePlus Summer Launch Event, the company announced that the upcoming OnePlus Nord 4 will be its first phone to support software updates for six years. That’s a huge development for consumers, and generally speaking, it’s great to see how Android devices have evolved in how long they support a device after it’s released.

However, what OnePlus is stating might be a bit misleading. It doesn’t mean six years of major OS updates, but a full six years of security updates (which would put it below the recently launched Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6). Instead, you’ll get four years of major OS updates, which isn’t bad in and of itself, but it’s a whole new thing that needs to be clarified.

This is good news for OnePlus fans in general. The OnePlus Nord 4 is a mid-range device and being the first in the company’s lineup to support six years of software updates means that OnePlus’ upcoming flagships will either match or surpass it.

OnePlus Battery Health Engine and Fluency A Rating Should Keep Your Phone Healthy for Longer

OnePlus also mentions that the device will come with something it calls Battery Health Engine. This is said to use AI to understand how you use your battery and how you charge your phone, and with that, optimize how much power it provides when charging your device and when it allows your phone to reach 100%. This should keep your battery healthy for much longer than rivals can manage.

To top it off, OnePlus tested the Nord 4 and awarded it a TUV SUD Fluency 72 Month A Rating. Sure, this might sound relatively confusing, but it’s basically a measure of how smoothly your device will run after a certain amount of time.

Without getting too technical, for the Nord 4, this rating means that after 72 months of use, the device can still perform its basic functions and open certain apps in an acceptable amount of time. As for the OnePlus Nord 4, not only has it been shown to work flawlessly after six years, but it’s also the only phone to currently receive a 72-Month rating. That’s impressive.
